Here Comes “Gesture of a Gentleman”

Our new album “Gesture of a Gentleman” is officially finished and will be ready for us to start sharing online later this week. The album contains 13 new songs and clocks in at almost exactly 1 hour. For the initial 250 copies, there will be 50 copies each of 5 different covers; below is one of the covers:

The album will first be available at our CD Release show at the Star Bar on May 15, and then in stores and online the next week.

Speaking of our CD Release show…. We are thrilled that our good friend ADRON has agreed to join us for the show! She will play an extended set, and then we will play for a good long while as well.

Album Update

We are currently putting the finishing touches our our new record, and we hope to have it ready to go by mid-April. And because we’re overachievers, we’re already planning our next couple of releases (more on that soon!).

Also, we added a little Facebook fanpage thing on the right of this page – if you aren’t our fan on Facebook yet…well, there’s no time like the present.

It’s Official: CD Release Show May 15

That’s right, our CD release show is officially scheduled:

If you were one of the kind folks who joined our Kickstarter.com project last year, then you will get your hands on the disc much earlier, but to everyone else…May 15th is your first chance. It will then be available in local stores and the usual online outlets the following week.

More info soon!

Recording Update

Just a quick update for ya – we’re working hard on the new record, now officially titled “The Gesture of a Gentleman.” Things are moving along quite well, and we’re going to shoot for a mid-spring 2010 release.

As we’ve been working on the album, we’ve been much better about updating our Facebook page than this site…so maybe you should head on over there if you haven’t already! We’ve been posting short video clips and photos over there as we go along.

We’ve also recently updated out YouTube Channel with a bunch of videos as well: www.youtube.com/user/afttd

More soon!

Our Holiday 2009 Single is Here!

Just a reminder that our Holiday 2009 CD single will be available ONLY at our 12/19 show- we only have 50 of these bad boys, so its first-come first-served! They look great (if we do say so ourselves!), so if you want one…you know what to do!

Recording Has Begun!

We have officially begun the recording of our sophomore LP, tentatively titled “The Gesture of a Gentleman.” We’ve recorded pre-production (glorified demos) of all the tracks, and will be recorded the ‘real’ versions in a ‘real’ studio next month. We’re totally amped about the new songs – we think you’ll enjoy the record!

And of course, keep an eye on our Kickstarter.com page for exclusive updates. There’s only 10 DAYS left in our campaign over there, so join us now if you haven’t already!

Pre-prod still

We’re Back Baby, and We’re Bringin’ it.

091809 Kavarna lowI’m just going to do this the corporate America way – by making a bullet-pointed list to get you up to speed on what we’re doing!

** Mark (drummer) has almost fully recovered from his injuries and is able to play regularly again. We rehearsed a couple of times last week and were then able to perform at the Grant Park Festival without any of his limbs falling off.

** We will be starting the pre-production process for our new record in the next couple of weeks. We plan to hit the studio sometime in mid-Oct, and the record should be done by the end of the year; we are aiming for a release early next year!

** The band will be starting an interesting project for Kickstarter.com in the coming weeks. This project will give our fans an opportunity to help us out in exchange for some kick-ass exclusive AFTTD stuff. More on this very soon.

** We will be documenting the process of recording our record, and will cobble it all together at the end if we all survive. Some bits will be released as web shorts, and the whole thing will become a DVD at the end.

** CJ completed his 30 Songs in 30 Days project at ASongEachDay.com – look for a few of those ideas to pop up as AFTTD songs in the future.

** We are excited to be playing 2 shows in Atlanta next weekend: 9/18 at Kavarna with Dare Dukes and the Preakness, and 9/18 with a bevy of kick-ass bands for the OtherSound Festival.

CDs and Photos

Just wanted to point out that we have a list HERE of places you can get our new CD. Have a look! If you are a writer/blogger/etc and would like the CD for review, email us and we will make sure you get one.

Also, we have a bunch of great photos from our CD release show. Some can be seen at the official AFTTD Flickr page, and photographer Ken Lackner has a ton of great shots on his Flickr page as well; be sure to check out his other sets too! ***Just a note: if you use any of these photos on blogs or in print, please attribute them properly to the photographer and provide a link to their site if possible. Thanks!***

THANK YOU!!

We are happy to announce that our debut self-titled LP is now available online, in stores, and of course at our shows. As many of you know (you were there!), we celebrated the record’s release with a bash at Atlanta’s Highland Ballroom on July 19th. Words can’t even describe how much fun we had at this show; the turnout was amazing and everyone was just so f’n cool. The trio of Ben Gettys, Jamie Shephard, and Colin Bragg opened the evening with a selection of wonderful tunes that did a great job of setting the tone for the remainder of the night. Thanks guys!

By the time we hit the stage around 10:45, there was a line at the bar that stretched nearly to the door and the energy in the room was just fantastic. We were extremely pleased with the crowd’s reaction to our show, and very much enjoyed the interaction; everyone was there to have a good time and we sure hope we gave it to them!

As a side note: many of you know how we feel about cover charges for local shows – we don’t like ‘em. Many venues seem to be charging more and more to see local bands, and this only serves to drive away what few people we have in this town that actually care to see unknown bands. We have great love for a handful of strong local acts, but not a single one of them (including us for sure) is worth $10 at the door. Nothing against these bands – they’re truly great – but we are at a point in this town where we need to be doing anything we can to bring in new fans, rather than chasing them away. Low cover charges get more bodies in the door, get more alcohol sold at the bar, and sell more CDs for the bands – everyone wins! The reason I bring this up is that we feel our CD release show is a good poster child for the no/low cover charge plan. We had no cover charge, and as a result the venue made a killing at the bar and we sold a ton of CDs; again, everyone wins. We are very happy to see the Star Bar doing so many free shows lately – seems like they are reaping the benefits as well, as the club is once again considered a great place to play by good locals. Our last 2 shows at the Star Bar were free, and we have seen our fanbase grow exponentially because of it; our CD release party would have been a lot less crowded were it not for all those new fans we pulled in at the Star Bar a couple weeks back. Low/no cover shows can really get people out, and these same people will be much more willing to pay $5-8 in the future if they see something they like. OK…I’m off my soapbox!

Album Finished.

We have finished the record. Finally. It is being pressed as I type, and will be dumped onto an unsuspecting world for the first time at our CD Release Show July 19th. We are super proud of this record, and we really can’t wait for everyone to hear it! We’re also thrilled about the Release show – we’ll be taking over the Highland Ballroom in Atlanta for the evening, and we’ll be joined by some of our favorite musicians in town. Opening the evening is a fantastic trio comprised of Jamie Shepard, Ben Gettys, and Colin Bragg; these guys will likely embarrass us with their amazing musicianship! We will then take the stage for about 45-60 minutes – we’ll be playing a nice cross-section of old and new material. Following our set, local DJ Black Dominoes (well known around teh Interwebs for his fantastic Vampire Weekend remix) will take us into the late-night with old school soul and rare garage tracks.

Perhaps best of all, this show will be FREE to attend. A whole night’s worth of entertainment for the rock-bottom price of $0…can’t beat it! Here’s the icing on the cake: if you come to our July 3rd Star Bar show (also FREE!!) you can pick up a promo CD single (also FREE!!). Then bring that prmo CD with you to our CD Release show and get our new LP for $5.

So essentially, we are doing everything we can to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to see us for free and get our record for cheap!
