Over the weekend, our good friend Phil Clippinger was killed in a car accident. Not only was he George’s roommate and close friend, but he was also one of our band’s biggest supporters. I think he probably came to more of our shows than any of our other friends, and he was always supportive and kind. We will truly miss seeing his face in the crowd.
If you see George out and about, buy him a beer and make a toast for Phil.
Our egos were gently stroked today as we were named as the Runner-Up for “Best International Act” in Creative Loafing‘s annual Best of Atlanta issue. Nice!
Go HERE to read about how our good friends Batada Doce beat us for Critics’ Choice.
Also, we had an absolutely killer time playing with all the great bands of the OtherSound Festival on Saturday. Here’s a nice pic from the night, courtesy of Chris Awwesome:
Last night at Kavarna we debuted a brand new song called “Thirty Years.” We have uploaded a video of the performance on our Kickstarter.com project page; the video is only viewable for backers of our project though, so this is a good time to join in!
This is the absolute BEST way for you to make sure that you get a copy of our new record the instant that it is finished, and also get your hands on a ton of very exclusive AFTTD recordings.
Here is a video describing the project; take a look, and the go to our Kickstarter page!
I’m just going to do this the corporate America way – by making a bullet-pointed list to get you up to speed on what we’re doing!
** Mark (drummer) has almost fully recovered from his injuries and is able to play regularly again. We rehearsed a couple of times last week and were then able to perform at the Grant Park Festival without any of his limbs falling off.
** We will be starting the pre-production process for our new record in the next couple of weeks. We plan to hit the studio sometime in mid-Oct, and the record should be done by the end of the year; we are aiming for a release early next year!
** The band will be starting an interesting project for Kickstarter.com in the coming weeks. This project will give our fans an opportunity to help us out in exchange for some kick-ass exclusive AFTTD stuff. More on this very soon.
** We will be documenting the process of recording our record, and will cobble it all together at the end if we all survive. Some bits will be released as web shorts, and the whole thing will become a DVD at the end.
** CJ completed his 30 Songs in 30 Days project at ASongEachDay.com – look for a few of those ideas to pop up as AFTTD songs in the future.
** We are excited to be playing 2 shows in Atlanta next weekend: 9/18 at Kavarna with Dare Dukes and the Preakness, and 9/18 with a bevy of kick-ass bands for the OtherSound Festival.
