Holiday Show Wrap-Up

Wow, what a night. Our second-annual Holiday Blowout was an absolute blast, and with the exception of a few production-related hiccups, it went off without a hitch! Also, the final tally isn’t finished yet, but it appears that we almost DOUBLED the amount of cash we raised for the Food Bank last year. NICE!

First off, huge thanks go out to all of the performers from the evening. We were absolutely thrilled with Telegram’s long-overdue return to the stage, and the fact that the always-wonderful Kitty Snyder joined them onstage was just icing on the musical cake! And even though the drunken revelry of others in the room threatened to drown them out, Adron, Old Custer, Blair Crimmins, Lera Lynn, and Daniel Clay all performed their holiday songs beautifully. And big ups to the Judi Chicago boys for keeping the party going into the night with a perfectly-paced DJ set.

We are truly proud to count the best musicians in this town amongst our friends.

We’d definitely be remiss if we didn’t thank Malissa Sole of 4th Ward Heroes for her promotional and organizational help – hell, I think she Twittered and Facebooked about the show more than we did!

And most definitely we must thank the Highland Ballroom crew for so generously allowing us to commandeer their venue once again this year – Mega, Josh, Val, Adam, and Mary were as accommodating as humanly possible and we appreciate it more than we can say.

Last but not least we want to thank our wonderful friends, family, and fans for not only supporting our band, but also for joining us in our support of the Food Bank. You guys really make all the hard work worthwhile!

See you all in 2010…

Our Holiday 2009 Single is Here!

Just a reminder that our Holiday 2009 CD single will be available ONLY at our 12/19 show- we only have 50 of these bad boys, so its first-come first-served! They look great (if we do say so ourselves!), so if you want one…you know what to do!

Quick Update

Here’s what’s going on in the world of AFTTD:

** Our Kickstarter campaign is going strong; with 22 days to go, we have raised 58% of our goal. If you haven’t joined yet, jump on board and we’ll send you cool stuff. Also, we’ve been updating the Kickstarter page regularly with unreleased demos, videos, and live tracks.

** We begin pre-production for the new record this weekend. We’re planning on 10-12 songs, and aiming for a Spring release.

** Our next show is Oct 23 with Dave Daniels at the Star Bar.

** We are currently also planning our annual Holiday Charity Fundraiser. Once again, the show will be free to attend, but small donations of cash or canned goods will be accepted for the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Just like last year, there will be an exclusive limited A Fight to the Death CD single given to everyone who donates $5 or 5 cans of food at the door. We are very happy to say that Telegram will be coming out of semi-retirement to join us on the bill, and the night will conclude with a set of holiday tunes performed by some of Atlanta’s most awesome musicians.

A New Year…

In the days of Facebook and Myspace, it is becoming harder and harder for me to find the motivation to update this site! Sorry to anyone who might have been wondering if we were dead… So, on to the updates!

We have been working our butts off writing new material for our next record, which we hope to begin recording in the spring. We have about half a record written already, and progress is swift. Our first show of 2009 is on Feb 27, and we’ll be debuting at least one brand new song…hopefully more.

Our Dec 20th Holiday show was a huge success, and we were able to raise over $500 and 485 lbs of food for the Atlanta Community Food Bank!!! That’s totally great, and we look forward to shattering those numbers at our 2009 Holiday show!

Holiday Blowout!

Hello friends and fans! As many of you know, we are celebrating the holidays with a fundraiser for the Atlanta Community Food Bank on Dec 20th. Here are the details!

The show will be Dec 20th at the Highland Ballroom in Atlanta. The show will be free to attend, but we are HIGHLY encouraging everyone to bring a couple of canned-food items to donate to the cause. If you don’t bring cans, you can also contribute small cash donations!

A Fight to the Death will also be selling a limited edition CD single that will ONLY be available at this show. There will only be 100 copies of this disc EVER, and it contains one brand new AFTTD song as well as the band playing a classic Christmas song. The disc will sell for $3, and ALL of that money will go to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Its a great way to contribute and also get your hands on a very unique treat!

In addition to AFTTD, the night includes a special performance by Daniel Clay & Choral Society. We honestly can’t say enough about how amazing these guys are, and you will not be disappointed! We will also be joined onstage by a variety of local musicians for a Christmas Song Extravaganza, featuring Drew DeMan (No River City, Old Custer), Kitty Snyder, Troy Beiser (Telegram), Anton Harris, and many more.

We really really hope to see you there!!!

THANK YOU!!

We are happy to announce that our debut self-titled LP is now available online, in stores, and of course at our shows. As many of you know (you were there!), we celebrated the record’s release with a bash at Atlanta’s Highland Ballroom on July 19th. Words can’t even describe how much fun we had at this show; the turnout was amazing and everyone was just so f’n cool. The trio of Ben Gettys, Jamie Shephard, and Colin Bragg opened the evening with a selection of wonderful tunes that did a great job of setting the tone for the remainder of the night. Thanks guys!

By the time we hit the stage around 10:45, there was a line at the bar that stretched nearly to the door and the energy in the room was just fantastic. We were extremely pleased with the crowd’s reaction to our show, and very much enjoyed the interaction; everyone was there to have a good time and we sure hope we gave it to them!

As a side note: many of you know how we feel about cover charges for local shows – we don’t like ‘em. Many venues seem to be charging more and more to see local bands, and this only serves to drive away what few people we have in this town that actually care to see unknown bands. We have great love for a handful of strong local acts, but not a single one of them (including us for sure) is worth $10 at the door. Nothing against these bands – they’re truly great – but we are at a point in this town where we need to be doing anything we can to bring in new fans, rather than chasing them away. Low cover charges get more bodies in the door, get more alcohol sold at the bar, and sell more CDs for the bands – everyone wins! The reason I bring this up is that we feel our CD release show is a good poster child for the no/low cover charge plan. We had no cover charge, and as a result the venue made a killing at the bar and we sold a ton of CDs; again, everyone wins. We are very happy to see the Star Bar doing so many free shows lately – seems like they are reaping the benefits as well, as the club is once again considered a great place to play by good locals. Our last 2 shows at the Star Bar were free, and we have seen our fanbase grow exponentially because of it; our CD release party would have been a lot less crowded were it not for all those new fans we pulled in at the Star Bar a couple weeks back. Low/no cover shows can really get people out, and these same people will be much more willing to pay $5-8 in the future if they see something they like. OK…I’m off my soapbox!

Album Finished.

We have finished the record. Finally. It is being pressed as I type, and will be dumped onto an unsuspecting world for the first time at our CD Release Show July 19th. We are super proud of this record, and we really can’t wait for everyone to hear it! We’re also thrilled about the Release show – we’ll be taking over the Highland Ballroom in Atlanta for the evening, and we’ll be joined by some of our favorite musicians in town. Opening the evening is a fantastic trio comprised of Jamie Shepard, Ben Gettys, and Colin Bragg; these guys will likely embarrass us with their amazing musicianship! We will then take the stage for about 45-60 minutes – we’ll be playing a nice cross-section of old and new material. Following our set, local DJ Black Dominoes (well known around teh Interwebs for his fantastic Vampire Weekend remix) will take us into the late-night with old school soul and rare garage tracks.

Perhaps best of all, this show will be FREE to attend. A whole night’s worth of entertainment for the rock-bottom price of $0…can’t beat it! Here’s the icing on the cake: if you come to our July 3rd Star Bar show (also FREE!!) you can pick up a promo CD single (also FREE!!). Then bring that prmo CD with you to our CD Release show and get our new LP for $5.

So essentially, we are doing everything we can to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to see us for free and get our record for cheap!

Album Almost Done

We have finished the basic tracking for our forthcoming self-titled debut LP. We recorded as much of it as possible live in our rehearsal space in order to capture the raw-ness of our live show, and are now in the overdubbing/post production process. The LP will first be available on July 19th at our CD release show at the Highland Ballroom; it will be in stores and online shortly thereafter! It will consist of 11 tracks, and will come in a nice little recycled cardboard digi-pak type case; of course you can also get it through the usual online sources as well (iTunes, eMusic, Rhapsody, Aime Street, etc).

Needless to say, we are very excited about this release! More details will follow soon regarding the CD release party, but rest assured it will be a lovely evening for all and certainly won’t be your typical boring rock club cd party…
