Video on the Way!

Here is just a snippet of the large amount of video content we’ll be putting out in the near future. This is “Scissors” from our July 3rd show at the EARL in Atlanta.

It’s Been a While…

Ah, the era of social media. It has made us lazy with the website updates; we stay on top of Facebook and Twitter, and neglect our own site! Sigh.

But oh buddy, lots of stuff has happened in the almost 2 months since our last update! For starters, we released our second full-length LP “Gesture of a Gentleman” (you can buy it here), and marked the occasion with an amazingly-fun show at the Star Bar. The night was recorded (in video and audio) and we’ll be posting clips online in the near future.

As many of you have no doubt noticed, we’ve been getting a fair amount of radio play these days – big ups to the WRAS crew for getting the ball roliin’ on that!

Just this past weekend, we performed alongside our good friends Blair Crimmins and Lindsay Appel at the EARL’s pre-Independence Day bash. The place was packed with beer-swilling musical patriots, and what a blast we had. Thanks a million to all who came!

A little tidbit about our horizon: we’re currently working on what will become our next record. This will be an EP containing brand new tunes, recorded with very eclectic instrumentation (ukulele, hammered dulcimer, banjo, piano, percussion, pedal steel, dobro, etc). We think you’ll love it! More on this soon…

AFTTD is Almost 2 Years Old

afttd-postmarks-earlThat’s right – two years ago on August 1, we played our first show as a full band at the EARL in Atlanta. At that show, the band consisted of me (CJ), Mark Carbone, Colin Jaccino, and Nathan Green. George had not yet joined the band (though I believe he was in attendance that night), and the songs we played would barely be recognizable to our fans now. Hmmm…maybe I should post an Mp3 of a song or two from that show…. AFTTD EARL

Maybe later tonight. ;)

The image to the right shows just how much we’ve changed over the past two years; we dress a bit snappier these days than we did then (this image is actually from our 2nd show, Sept 10 2007)! I think we only actually still play one song that we did that night…the rest have disappeared! Just for giggles, here’s our setlist from that night:

1. Burn This Town
2. A Single Shot (still unreleased)
3. Old Black Chains
4. Love You Til the End (Pogues cover)
5. On Crutches (from the “End of Continent Sadness” EP)
6. In the River (still unreleased)
7. Like a Machine
8. This Fear is Irrational

073009-twains-smSo, to celebrate out anniversary, we are playing an extended set of tunes on July 30th at Twain’s in Decatur, GA. And the show is FREE! Yay! In addition to our regular set staples, you can expect to hear us play a mix of really old stuff that we never play anymore, some fun covers, and even a pair of brand new just-written songs. The show starts at 8:30 pm, and we’ll play until 11 pm (with a 30 min break in the middle).

Come celebrate with us!!

Come to the Atlanta Paste Mag Fundraiser!

071009-paste-showWe’ve been asked to join Attractive Eighties Women, members of Y-O-U, and others to help raise some cash for Paste Magazine by playing their fundraising event at the Earl. The show will take place on Friday July 10, and we promise that it will be awesome.

We’re currently putting the finishing touches on a couple more brand new songs that we will debut at that show, in addition to our usual repertoire of booty-shakin gypsy salsa mambo tex-mex jams!

We’ll remind you all later (don’t worry!), but please mark your calendars for what will be a great night of music and merriment!

Lots of New Pictures

Ohmpark.com has posted a few pictures from our recent EARL show:

Thanks to both Ohmpark and Kevin for the great shots!

I Feel Like the EARL Smells

Yeah, I’m a bit tired from playing the EARL last night, but it was worth it as usual. I Was a King played some really great grungy Norwegian pop, though they sadly did so in front of a tragically small crowd. I think my favorite part of the night was seeing Travel by Train for the first time – they opened the show and were really darn good. The band was solid and singer Kelly Taylor had a killer voice (think Fiona Apple meets Feist) – they’ve apparently only been around for about a year, so I look forward to seeing them get some more recognition!

We also got asked to play at a Paste Magazine fundraiser in July – more details on that to come!

Show Reminder: June 3 at the EARL

Just a friendly reminder that AFTTD will be playing with I Was a King, a kick-ass band from Norway, on June 3 at the EARL.

FUN TIMES!

Reflections on OtherSound

We are thrilled to have participated in this year’s Other Sound Festival, and we had a great time at the EARL on Saturday. We shared the bill with a handful of other locals: Dropsonic, Missile Command, The Booze, and Rev Rebel & the Sound Supreme. It was an absolute pleasure to play with our old friends (Dropsonic and Missile Command) and our new friends (Rev Rebel), all of whom performed very well in addition to being super-nice people. It was nice to see that members of all of these bands were in the audience for each others’ sets; nothing bugs us more than bands who lock themselves away backstage (like super-cool rockstars!) only to emerge when it is time for their set. And here’s a tip for bands full of snarky little shits: your cooler-than-cool attitudes will only take you so far before nobody wants to play with you – have some common courtesy and kindness for god’s sake or you will earn a reputation that is far less than favorable. Enough about that.

Let me also state that after all these years, Dropsonic is still the tightest, loudest, and overall best rock band in town. Why do these guys still have day jobs?
